You are viewing highly collectable Walt Disney Home Video Betamax cassettes. Disney strategically issued variations and re-releases as part of its intentional marketing strategy, resulting in numerous collectible editions that are highly sought after by dedicated collectors. Missing volume 6 and volume 12. These older (white clamshell editions) were first introduced in mid 1981. Throughout the 1980s till about 1986.

Disney re-released many of its titles on a yearly basis, often identifying new production runs with sticker print dates affixed to the cassette or packaging. The earliest 1980 and early months of 1981 cassette were the tapes withdrawn from the FOTOMAT license and authorized rental dealers. These early tapes DID NOT have a print date sticker label neither printed print date on the cassette. You can easily identify them by looking at the hood on the cassette you will notice there is no print sticker label neither printed date. Beginning in late 1985, Disney also started printing manufacturing dates directly on some Betamax cassettes.

These printed-date examples are generally harder to find, with 1986 releases being the most common year in which printed cassette dates appear. Disney's yearly re-release print dates generally began in mid-to-late 1981 (not the earliest months of 1981) and continued through 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, and 1987. White clamshell releases bearing 1987 print dates are considered transitional issues and are significantly more difficult to locate on Betamax, making them desirable collector's pieces.

That is because typically by the time the year 1987 came most disney tapes were being issued in slipcover boxes at the start of that year. After 1986, Disney increasingly transitioned to slipcover sleeve packaging, although some late clamshell releases still exist. Earlier releases from 1980 and early 1981 did not include either sticker print dates or printed manufacturing dates, making them distinguishable from later reissues. The earliest Walt Disney Home Video VHS & Betamax releases after the early1980 Blue clam rental program and after the 1980 early 1981 Fotomat agreement Disney began releasing their tapes packaged in white, thick padded clamshell cases. Late 1979 to Beginning 1980. Walt Disney and Fotomat Rentals enter into an agreement making fotomat the initial Disney authorized rental chain. These earliest tapes featured at the very bottom of the sticker label a fotomat logo.

Fotomat violated the agreement and Disney scrapped their license and recalled all tapes with the fotomat logo taking them out of existence. These are the rarest Disney tapes. Extremely Rare Almost impossible to find. All Blue Clam cases were recalled and purged. Disney sent in representatives to retrieve them all as they were considered property of Walt Disney.
